Instigated in the early 90’s Mr Bill Hoddinott a senior officer at Mt Macedon’s Counter Disaster College generously decided to donate a trophy for an annual competition at the Macedon Ranges Bowling Club.
Bill who had worked with current member Allan Cameron at the College was generous at the time of his retirement and the club recognised that by naming the trophy after Bill.
The event was conducted as a mixed pairs event however, with lower female club members being available men were able to participate as pairs but play with a handicap.
Games have been usually been over eight ends. In recent times this has been changed to be triples to enable mixed teams to participate.
The club is reintroducing the trophy for 2022-23 and have made the event to coincide with Club Opening Day.
Long time Macedon resident Mrs Joan Wright generously donated a trophy and asked that in memory of her deceased husband that it be known as the Percy Wright Trophy.
Joan later passed away and the family requested her name be added to the Trophy.
There are now two events commemorating both spouses with handicaps applied for both the male and female entries.
Neither Percy or Joan were members of the club.
The event is singles and conducted over 15 ends.
